SETT

September 24th, 2006 by Pam McDowall

Well it definitely worked. I was once again inspired by all I saw at SETT. I started the day on Wednesday attending David and Ewan’s seminar which set me down the blogging path once again. I have now decided to set up a French learning blog with another local school ( Kirklandneuk ) and we are meeting up this week to go through all the technical stuff. I really took on board what they said about letting people know what is out there by advertising it so I guess this is my first attempt to do it. More on that once I have set up our blogs.
I also attended another seminar by Rob Henderson, Teacher, Hillhead Primary School, Highland which was all about his school news programme. This really excited me as I have been looking for a way to connect with my parents other than through newsletters and I think a termly video podcast is definitely the way to go. Check out Inchinnan Primary for more details soon. This linked in with another superb idea from Susan Buchanan, Principal Teacher, Woodhill Primary School where they have created a blog to engage their parents in debate about policy, etc. I can’t wait to take this to my Head Teacher and see what ideas we can come up with. This leads me back to John’s brilliant idea of advertising through posters in local shops - sometimes the simple ones are the best! A design a poster competition beckons …

    Hi Pam,

Look forward to seeing your French blog. I’ve just set up one for my pupils called Two Stars and a Wish - http://www.nodehillfrench.typepad.com which has been very popular so far. I also run my own personal/professional blog called Integrating ICT into the MFL classroom - http://www.joedale.typepad.com.

    Best wishes

    Joe

    Hi Pam,
It’d be great to put together a wee community of Primary French blogs a la talking teddies, to give some ‘real’ communication between kids. Maybe this could be done by email at first to make the connections and then managed over at http://scotedublogs.wikispaces.com? I’m heading over to Longniddry Primary this morning so I might ask them what they think.

BTW, was the posters-in-shops idea not one I gave in the talk? ;-)

Credit where credit is due, I just Blogged David and Ewan’s seminar, so Pam may have picked it up there.

True Ewan you did mention it in your seminar and I did pick it up in John’s blog so you gave me the idea in duplicate! ;-)

    Talk about connected! ;-)

    Pam,

It is good to see you have taken up the challenge once more. The project with Kirklandneuk sounds really interesting. Please tell us more as soon as you can. I have now added your blog to my RSS feed in bloglines so I won’t miss the next time you hit the keyboard.

I’m glad you were inspired by SETT. If even one of the ideas currently fizzing in your brain gets fully developed than that’s a success in my book. :-)
